With each line-up change, the band seemed to re-invent itself by pushing the boundaries of what had been played before. It started as being country music playing many of the standards plus various other styles for colour and entertainment value. By 1980, the band realised that its vocal abilities had become much stronger and therefore a selling point. The band's songlist was inspired by the country rock movement of Los Angeles in the early seventies by artists such as The Eagles, Pure Prairie League, Poco and Andrew Gold. More mainstream country artists were also having their effect on the band such as The Oakridge Boys, The Gatlin Brothers and Ricky Scaggs while still respecting the traditional sounds of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys.

Because the band's harmony abilities were strong, they became sought after as a backing band for many other artists at concerts and music festivals.

On various tours the band found themselves not only as a drawcard in their own right, but as a back-up band for artists like Jimmy Little, Col Elliott, Smokey Dawson, Alison Durbin, Lee Conway, Reg Poole and many more. The band was also chosen as backing band to Tamworth's Starmaker Talent Quest several times helping contestants such as Lee Kernaghan and Leanne Douglas.

From the mid-eighties, the band took on a new sound with the inclusion of pedal steel guitarist, Mike Burke. He had been an experienced session player recording with acts such as the Little River Band TM, Brian Cadd, Stars and Barry Crocker. He also played fretless bass and wrote many songs with fellow band member Steve Cross. The band's sound had changed by now, but still sounded very country. The band had a very convincing selection of songs from the Little River Band TM and The Eagles as well as many originals.
